Recently the US Department of Education conducted an interesting survey to measure the quality of distance learning versus traditional education. Now this might seem like a controversial statement but its buzz worthy enough for students exploring the possibility of attaining distance education. When you compare online education as opposed to ground based campus, the biggest difference is that e-learners have the flexibility to attend classes at their own pace and time.

Man comparing ties in a mirrorI know a lot of educators will blow me away but it makes sense to share my perspective. The study concludes that students enrolled in e-courses execute drastically better as compared to those who attend a traditional university setting. Furthermore, the study analyzed various other academic factors to conclusively support its findings. Obviously some of the most common questions concerning online learning versus classroom learning colleges are related to accreditation and degree credentials.

Preview results of study on online education vs traditional classroom model:

• On average, students who enrolled in e-classes significantly outperformed students attending on campus (brick & mortar) schools on the same subjects.

• Teaching communication that combined both e-classes and face to face interaction clearly increased the student productivity curve. Comparative to the combined teaching method, pure physical classroom teaching couldn’t deliver the same level of efficiency.

• Student learners attending web-based video courses are able to spend more time doing actual tasks in comparison to students attending face-to-face instructional lectures. It holds a distinct advantage over synchronous on ground method to better prepare students in a performance based outcome.

• Even with a lot of changes in studies offered through distance education, the overall performance of students remained consistent.

• The dynamics of internet based model presents a broad spectrum across various asynchronous course studies and synchronous academic dimensions.

• Evaluation between distance education vs traditional on-campus college gave synchronized results in terms of student execution.

• To our surprise, electronic media (Live video conference, pod casts) and website tests are not the major factors that improve or influence the on site studying experience. However correspondence education mostly depends on electronic media, as a core element of e-learning.

• Curriculum can be improved by providing students complete access to their study interface and encouraging higher graduation rate.

One of the biggest benefits of virtual academic portal is being able to share thoughts with anyone across the world. Virtual classes provide a unique platform for digital technology integration across all the knowledge centers on the internet.

Recent case studies on online learning versus traditional learning debates have just scratched the surface and it has a long way to go in the future. For now, we can only draw ideas about our understanding of the virtual knowledge environment. After students across United States start realizing the advantages of accredited online colleges, assessing the cognitive elements of institutions will become much more easier.

Thank you for your report on online vs. traditional education. The results of this study are more than suprising. However they are one of the reasons why online degrees are gaining in both reputation and popularity. Online degrees are vital to people who can't earn their degree at traditional institutions. It is a great oppurtnity and one of the benifits technology has given us. Finding an accredited online program is a smart way to earn an advanced degree. It is nice to know how effective online learning is. Thanks again.

I adore online learning. I have taken my Master's Degree online and now am pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with Walden University online. Traditional learning was fun but it was tiring sitting in class for 5 hours a night in those uncomfortable chairs, and then I was so hungry and all we had were those little snack machines with unhealthy food and coffee machines that usually forgot the cup when it was your last four quarters. Oh the memories.
