Getting the Most From Your College Freshman Year
Anticipating that first year of College, starts with a whole gambit of mixed emotions, with the two major ones being a sense of excitement, and fear of the unknown. You are looking forward to your independence and a new experience in life. At the same time it means a whole new environment and probably a whole new circle of friends.
Start by taking a deep breath, and then consider some of these tips that are sure to get you off to a great start :-

1. Take advantage of what the Professors have to offer. You may think that you won't require any extra help from what the teaching department has to offer through their student support, but it is important to get to know them in the event that you do need assistance. You will get yourself known to the faculty this way, and when special occasions arise where they utilize students, your name will be more than likely to crop up as a candidate.
2. Take advantage of extra circular programs. You will find that there are some great student resources available to you during your freshman year. Make use of these. These include those extra curricular programs, that offer enhanced life skills that will prepare you for the future. It is important that you take advantage of every opportunity that awaits you, in the many facets of your freshman year. This builds the foundation for the rest of your college life.
3. Enjoy the atmosphere. College is not all work and no play. Be sure that you keep your campus experience well blended with a mixture of work and play. Enjoy the activities that are available to you such as some sports activities, and the leisure entertainment that is offered at your campus.
4. Build a social network. Social skills are an important part of development for your future. Find some organizations and on campus clubs that appeal to you and take the time to participate in these. Not only is it good for your mindset, but it may give you a chance to develop some leadership skills as well, depending on your participation.
5. Become and stay involved. Every campus has their own roster of events. Be sure to slot into your time schedule the time to participate in some of these. This is a great venue for you to be able to make friends outside of your academic circle.
6. Stay balanced. Time management is going to be one of the most important aspects to begin with. It can be tough trying to fit in all of the points that we have just covered, and keep up with your academics as well. By learning to do this though, you are building a good structure for yourself when you are ready to face the challenges of the employment world.
