Thinking about going to Law school ?Law school can be challenging, and requires critical thinking and analysis at every stage. Law schools want students with different educational backgrounds, meaning they can use their undergraduate degrees to give them an advantage over their peers. You will want to start early when thinking about the type of background education you want before starting your studies.

While there aren't any undergrad degrees that will hurt a student, there are some degrees that can give a competitive edge needed when starting out in law school. Take stock of what subjects interest you most and where you plan on taking your education in law before considering your undergraduate degree. These can make or break a future career.

Philosophy

Philosophy sets up undergraduates to excel in law college. While they aren't required to take prerequisite classes to get into a school of law, it is important for students to take classes that will improve their writing, analysis, and critical thinking. A philosophy degree requires all of this, and having a firm background in philosophy and critical thinking will allow undergrads to do well during post graduation.Philosophy will set you up for future success and be a great asset in your further education.

STEM Degrees

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will all give aspiring lawyers an edge.  Long hours, difficult tests, and complex material are all part of being a STEM student. However, that's also required of students, making STEM undergraduate degrees perfect for starting out in law school. Anyone pursuing a STEM degree also need to keep in mind that the courses in these fields are often more difficult than other disciplines, and that they will have to work harder than others to keep their grades up.This type of degree is often more technical and will not offer as much preparation for speech and writing.Be sure you can handle all of the other coursework with higher education later on.

Business

Any Champlain law degree masters student will tell you law and business go well together, and a business degree is perfect for those just starting college. Business classes teach professionalism in the work place, require critical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to accomplish difficult tasks. What is also great is that students interested in going into business law will already have a background in business, giving them an advantage over their fellow classmates.Be prepared to do more writing and critical thinking when you get to law school though, often business majors are not adequately prepared for all the intense writing and thinking that goes with a degree in law.

Economics

Like philosophy, economics requires students to excel in critical thinking and analysis. Economics is often regarded as one of the more difficult undergraduate degrees, and setting expectations and goals high before law school will help them succeed when they enter their difficult first year of college. This is an excellent set up for further education and will be good preparation for the type of work and testing that is prevalent in this particular field.

Degrees Online

You should also remember that an online degree is also an option for aspiring lawyers with little time to spare. It is often cheaper, allows more flexibility for students who work full-time jobs, and accredited online programs are recognized by the American Bar Association, meaning that an online law degree is just as valuable as degrees acquired through the traditional route. If you just don't have enough time to prepare, see if a short spell in the online world will help with your further education.
